History

Where does the 1303 siege of Chittorgarh sit in Rajasthan?

Quick answer

Chittorgarh fort, on the plateau above the modern town, in Chittorgarh district. It is one of the six UNESCO hill forts inscribed in 2013.

Detailed answer

Chittorgarh fort, on the plateau above the modern town, in Chittorgarh district. It is one of the six UNESCO hill forts inscribed in 2013.

The sack of Chittor in 1303 is a historical event. Later writing describes jauhar during the great sieges. Those descriptions are not all of the same age, and they are not a film script.

Chittor was attacked again in 1535 and fell to Akbar in 1568. The fort remained the memory of Mewar even after the capital moved.
