The Sisodia Maharanas, who described themselves as diwans of Eklingji. Mewar is the kingdom that held out longest against Mughal suzerainty and the one whose forts dominate the UNESCO list: Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh are both on it.

Chittorgarh was the older seat. Udaipur became the capital in the sixteenth century. Kumbhalgarh and Eklingji sit in the same cultural country. In 1948 the Maharana of Udaipur, Bhupal Singh, became Rajpramukh when Udaipur joined the union on 18 April. That is a modern office, not a medieval title.
