Osian

Is Osian a UNESCO World Heritage site?

Quick answer

Osian: Not UNESCO. Winter if you can choose. A day from Jodhpur, early, with water and a hat. Not after a Mehrangarh morning.

Detailed answer

Osian is in Jodhpur district, in the Marwar part of Rajasthan. People usually combine it with Jodhpur. From the usual hub this is a full day. It is a poor clip-on to another fort the same morning.

UNESCO line, quoted rather than improved: Not UNESCO. The exam-sized version is: Osian is north of Jodhpur, famous for temples, not for a Rathore palace. Fame and the 2013 hill-fort inscription are different facts. This page does not add Osian to that list, or remove it, beyond the sentence just quoted.

District Jodhpur, region Marwar, hub Jodhpur. Shoes off. Modest dress. No leather where the Jain temple forbids it. Exposed. Summer is brutal. The living shrine sets photography. Court or tradition named in the note: an early temple town.

Important information

  • Exposed. Summer is brutal. The living shrine sets photography.
  • Not UNESCO.

Tips

  • A day from Jodhpur, early, with water and a hat. Not after a Mehrangarh morning.
  • Mistake to refuse: rushing the sculpture because there is no postcard view
  • Named nearby: Jodhpur; the Phalodi road.
