What is Pushkar known for?

Quick answer

Pushkar is a small pilgrimage town by a lake, near Ajmer, widely known for a temple dedicated to Brahma and for the Kartik camel fair. The fair is not every week of the year.

Detailed answer

The Brahma temple is often described as one of the few major temples to Brahma in India. ‘The only one’ is a slogan; do not write it as an absolute in an exam without a standard source.

The camel fair clusters around Kartik Purnima. In the Gregorian calendar that moves, usually falling in October or November. Outside those days Pushkar is a lake town with ghats, not a fairground. Respect the ghats: they are for worship, not for a costume shoot.

Ajmer’s dargah is close enough to combine carefully on a long day, with modest dress and the shrine’s own rules.
