What is Teej in Rajasthan?

Quick answer

Teej is a monsoon festival, especially Hariyali Teej in Shravan, celebrated by women with swings, dress, fasting traditions and processions. Jaipur’s procession is the one most visitors hear about.

Detailed answer

The date is lunar, so it falls sometime in July or August, not on a fixed civil date. Ghewar is the sweet tied to the festival. Customs vary by family: some fast, some do not, and visitors should not treat a street procession as an invitation to copy ritual.

It is a beautiful time to be in Jaipur if you like crowds and the colour green. It is a poor time if you wanted empty forts and no rain risk.
