A slow look at Rajasthan

Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, below the older palace at Amber.

Answers come from a sourced library stored with this site. It is not a live government notice, and it will not invent an answer it does not have.

Geography

Desert, Aravalli, rivers and the size of the state.

Rajasthan is the largest state by area. The Aravalli is an old fold range crossing the state, and Mount Abu sits in it in Sirohi district. The west is the Thar. The south-east is wetter, drained by the Chambal system. Cultural regions, Dhundhar, Marwar, Mewar, Hadoti and Shekhawati, do not have to match the seven administrative divisions. Say which map you are using.

The Luni is the inland river of the western desert, flowing toward the Rann of Kutch rather than behaving like a perennial Himalayan river. The Indira Gandhi Canal is not the Luni. It brings Sutlej–Beas water into the north-west and changed farming around Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner and parts of Jaisalmer. The Chambal is the gorge and gharial river of the south-east, a tributary of the Yamuna. The Banas joins that system, and Bisalpur is on the Banas. Learn the rivers by the job they do.

This library’s district snapshot, reviewed on 2 October 2026, has 41 districts in seven divisions: Ajmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur. The count moved up in 2023 and back in late 2024. A newer gazette wins. The division quiz on this site drills the snapshot and says so. It is not a certificate of a boundary.

Heat and water decide travel more than a slogan about palaces. May and June are a poor time for dune afternoons. December nights can be sharply cold. The monsoon greens the east and south and can slow a road. None of these sentences is a forecast for a particular Tuesday. They are the climate shape. For tomorrow’s weather, use a forecast. For a permit, use the department that issues it.
