A slow look at Rajasthan

Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, below the older palace at Amber.

Answers come from a sourced library stored with this site. It is not a live government notice, and it will not invent an answer it does not have.

Chand Baori

Chand Baori is the great stepped tank at Abhaneri in Dausa, with Harshat Mata temple beside it. This overview reading stays inside a reviewed note for Dausa district and does not add a price, a census or a timetable.

What it is, and where it sits

Chand Baori is the great stepped tank at Abhaneri in Dausa, with Harshat Mata temple beside it. Tradition associates it with King Chanda and the ninth century. It is often described as about thirteen storeys. This library does not lock a step count. The temple sculpture is partly ruined and still worth a slow walk.

It is in Dausa district, read here as part of Dhundhar, and usually approached from Jaipur. From the usual hub this is a full day. It is a poor clip-on to another fort the same morning. The court or tradition named with that history is the Nikumbh tradition of this tract.

UNESCO, only as this note states it: Not a UNESCO World Heritage site. The short study line is: Abhaneri is in Dausa, east of Jaipur, not in Jodhpur and not at Amber.

How to give it the right amount of time

From Jaipur it is an eastward day. Amber is the other direction. Do not put both on one morning.

What a visit can actually name: the stepped tank; Harshat Mata temple; Abhaneri village. The walking is: You look from the edge more than you hike every step.

Neighbours already in the note: Dausa; Jaipur; Bhangarh on a longer day. The mistake is pairing too much: clipping it onto Amber

Food is a separate decision. Eat in Jaipur before or after.

The Dhundhar year, as a tendency

Summer inside the stone is an oven. The twelve lines below are seasonal tendencies for this part of Rajasthan. They were written as patterns, reviewed 2026-10-02. They are not a forecast, and they do not say that a gate will be open.

January is busy and pleasant by day, chilly at night, especially on a fort rampart. February is one of the easiest months for Jaipur’s old city. March warms up. Holi and wedding crowds can coincide. April is hot. Start monuments at opening time. May is severe heat on the plains. Sightseeing after late morning is endurance. June stays extremely hot.

July brings the first proper chance of rain. Roads can slow. August is greener and humid. A washed fort looks different and the stone can be slippery. September still carries heat and the odd shower. October is the start of the main visiting season. November is clear and comfortable for a full day outside. December is peak season. Book less tightly and expect cold mornings.

What to refuse, and how to behave

Story, kept as story: World-deepest rankings are a game. It is among the large stepped tanks of India.

Confusion to keep straight: Not Panna Meena at Amber.

The temple is living. Dress modestly if you enter. The drop is serious. Fees and hours change.

Chand Baori is a living religious place in this note. A ceremony outranks a photograph.

No special permit is recorded in this note. Hours and fees can still change, so they are not printed as if they were stable.
